Antique Percussion Rifle

Antique percussion rifle. Caliber unknown. 44” octagon barrel. No identifiable barrel markings. The wood stock is hand carved. The barrel, lock plate (modern replacement), trigger guard and hammer are all steel. The buttstock (period replacement but non-matching) is brass. The percussion rifle includes a wood ramrod held in place by 2 copper tube attachments. The forestock features a matching copper end cap. The rifle is no longer mechanically functioning. The hammer and lock mechanism does not function correctly indicating internal wear. The musket is in fair cosmetic condition. The stock shows signs of period wear (nicks, dents, scratches.) There is evidence of both period repairs, and modern repairs. The lock is a modern replacement. The rifle may have originally featured a flintlock mechanism. The barrel may have been cut down, at which point the forestock was cut and the endcap was re-attached. The buttstock appears to have been modified during the period of use.) The buttplate does not fit the rifle correctly and is a leftover part from another percussion rifle. Both the trigger guard and the barrel appear to be original. The bore has not been visually inspected (requires a borescope.)
